Shruthi Cauvery on the Future of Sports Investing at LetsIgnite 2025

LetsIgnite is LetsVenture's annual summit, one of India's larger gatherings of startups, angels, and institutional investors. At the 2025 edition, on 27 February in Bengaluru, Shruthi Cauvery joined Mustafa Ghouse (Centre Court Capital) for a conversation on the evolving world of sports investing, alongside leaders and investors examining how capital is shaping the next phase of India's sports economy.

Sports is increasingly being viewed through a broader investment lens. The opportunity is no longer limited to traditional franchise ownership: esports, sports-tech startups, gaming, media, fan engagement, data platforms, and sports infrastructure are creating new categories of businesses and new ways for investors to participate in the sector.

Where the capital is going

The conversation explored how institutional investors and family offices are approaching these emerging opportunities and what is changing as sports becomes a more sophisticated and diversified investment ecosystem.

India's growing sports economy is being shaped by several long-term trends: rising digital consumption, a growing fan base, the professionalisation of sports organisations, and the expansion of technology-driven businesses around athletes and audiences.

Wider investor discussions

Shruthi also joined broader investor-focused discussions on the trends shaping capital allocation and founder expectations:

  • A growing emphasis on value-added support, meaning investors doing more than writing cheques.
  • Capital efficiency as a headline metric rather than an afterthought.
  • The development of Indic LLMs as a distinct frontier for innovation, not a localisation exercise.

Why it matters for Vaia

For Vaia, the sports discussion connected naturally with the company's broader interest in how capital identifies and evaluates emerging sectors. The future of investment increasingly requires looking beyond traditional categories: as new industries develop, investors need to understand the underlying infrastructure, business models, and long-term forces that determine where value will ultimately be created.

Vaia is part of the Sarvam Startup Program for a related reason: India-tuned models change what is possible when processing regional-language filings and disclosures for domestic clients.
